Master Jeff Webb, our Chief-Instructor
Master Jeff Webb (6th Degree) is the chief-instructor (Sifu) of Austin Ving Tsun Academy and has been teaching professionally since 1996.
Jeff Webb began his lifelong study of martial arts at the age of 12 when he started learning So-Ryu Karate in June of 1983. By the age of 14, he began learning Ving Tsun (Wing Chun) kung fu in 1985 and is a former student of Leung Ting. Over the years, his travels have lead him to Europe and also Asia where he studied with other masters and grandmasters.
In the early 1990's Master Webb enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Ramstein Air Base in Germany for over three and a half years. During that time he taught and trained as an instructor in the EWTO and studied personally with many master-level instructors of the EWTO, including Grandmaster Keith R. Kernspecht.
Following his return to Austin in early 1996, he began building the Austin Ving Tsun Academy which resulted in opening his first professional school in 1997. Through consistent teaching methods and proper management, the school has thrived and produced a number of highly-skilled practitioners.
By the Summer of 2004, Sifu Webb opened a second full-time Ving Tsun gymnasium in North Austin. In December 2005, after 20+ years of training, Sifu Jeff Webb was conferred the rank of 5th Degree Master during a formal ceremony in Hong Kong.
In November of 2007, along with the help of his students from around the country, Master Jeff Webb formed the National Ving Tsun Organization (NVTO) and serves as the chief-instructor of this organization.
June of 2010 marked Master Webb's 25th year in Ving Tsun kung fu. In recognition of his continued dedication to excellence in advancing the development, study, and practice of Ving Tsun throughout North America; he was conferred the title of "Dai-Sifu" by the senior instructors and Sifus of the NVTO. A certificate formalizing this declaration was presented to Master Webb during a seminar held on June 5th, 2010, in Phoenix, Arizona.
On October 1, 2011, Master Webb was promoted to the rank of Sixth Level Master Degree.
Master Webb is a sought-after instructor on the seminar circuit and has taught more than 100 Ving Tsun seminars throughout North America since 1999. His well-attended seminars have been held in Texas, Arizona, California, Georgia, Indiana, Massachusetts, Montana, New York, Washington, and also in Canada. When not teaching, Master Webb enjoys writing and has written articles that have been printed in publications such as The Journal of Asian Martial Arts, Kung Fu Tai Chi Magazine, Wing Chun Illustrated, Austin FIT Magazine, and The Good Life. Master Webb has also appeared in television interviews on Austin's KEYE and KXAN stations and in local publications such as the Daily Texan and the Pflugerville Pflag.
During his career, Master Webb has become internationally known for his expertise in training Ving Tsun experts. Five of Master Webb's direct students have achieved their Sifu titles and he has produced more than 40 instructor-level practitioners since 1996. His personal goal as a trainer is to guide students to achieve their full potential through the study of martial arts.
