The Austin Ving Tsun Academy was founded by Master Jeff Webb in the mid-80's in order to bring the art of Ving Tsun kung fu to Austin. Between 1986 and 1991, Master Webb (then a young instructor) organized numerous seminars in Austin, bringing in several certified Ving Tsun and Wing Chun teachers to improve his own training and that of his students.
In late 1991, Jeff Webb left for the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Germany for close to four years. There he studied under the European Wing Tsun Organization (EWTO) where he earned his 2nd Instructor Level and the title of "Sifu" before returning the Texas in early 1996.
Upon his return, Master Webb immediately began reorganizing his group of students with the goal of opening the first professional Ving Tsun school in Austin. Within 18 months this dream was realized when the Academy found a permanent home at 5318 Manchaca Road in South Austin -- becoming the very first professional Ving Tsun kung fu school in the city.
In the years that followed Master Webb worked tirelessly to promote Ving Tsun kung fu, not only in Austin but around the country at weekend seminars and workshops. During the course of this time, he progressed through his 3rd and 4th instructor ranks.
By late 2004, the Academy opened a second fully-equipped location in North Austin on Research Boulevard which offered both day and evening classes. Many of the out of state instructors who attended Master Webb's seminars began visiting the academy in Austin for their advanced instruction.
Through proper management the Austin Ving Tsun Academy has thrived and produced a number of highly-skilled instructor-level practitioners (equivalent of black belt in other styles). To date more than 40 people have earned their instructor-level ranking under the expert instruction of Master Webb and his Academy.
In December of 2005, Jeff Webb was invited to Hong Kong where he received promotion to the rank of Ving Tsun Master (5th Degree), making him one of first two Americans to achieve this honor. Since then, Master Webb has continued to better his own skills and research improved training methods for his students. To date, Austin Ving Tsun Academy remains one of the most professional and respected martial arts schools in the country.
